Men’s Scripture Group

The group consists on average of 6–8 men who meet regularly on the second Saturday of each month from 10.00 am in the Meeting Room at Our Lady of Victories, 548 Burke Road, Camberwell to study and reflect on scripture.

The purpose of this gathering is to encourage like-minded men to come together to examine closely and discuss collectively the scripture readings of the day so that a more thorough understanding of them can be gained, particularly through examining and understanding their historical and social context.

This meeting is run on a semi-formal basis, usually over a cup of tea or coffee, and lasts no longer than an hour. It concludes with the group singing a hymn together. New members are always welcome.

John Hassett Memorial Social Justice Series

Each year, the Social Justice Group across the parishes organise a series of seminars on ‘Catholic Social Teaching and Action’ under the title of the John Hassett Memorial Social Justice Series. John Hassett was a long time Deepdene parishioner whose legal career, along with his Catholic faith, gave rise to his abiding interest and commitment to social justice, inclusive of his roles as Chair of the Catholic Archdiocesan Commission for Justice, Development and Peace and member of the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council. John died on 5 September, 2018.

The seminar series is held annually, with the theme and guest speakers changing each year. Information is available on this website and published in the parish newsletter when the program and dates are finalised.
